A History
OrchidServe is a division of Orchid Information Systems Limited, a company established in 1997 as a specialist technical information consultancy.
During its early years, Orchid developed online information systems, electronic manuals, computer-based training solutions and websites for clients across a range of industries. As web-based services became increasingly important, it quickly became apparent that an in-house hosting capability would provide significant benefits to both Orchid and its customers.
In 1998, Orchid acquired The Internet Experience, a small local Internet Service Provider (ISP), and integrated its services into Orchid’s expanding hardware infrastructure. This acquisition brought an established customer base of dial-up internet users, domain name registrations and website hosting clients, laying the foundations for what would become OrchidServe.
Many of Orchid’s website design and development customers also became OrchidServe customers, benefiting from a seamless service that combines website design, development and hosting under one provider. Today, OrchidServe continues to support a loyal and growing customer base throughout the UK, including many customers who rely solely on its hosting, domain management and internet services.
Infrastructure
In its early years, OrchidServe operated a fully self-managed infrastructure, maintaining its own physical web servers, email servers and DNS name servers. This hands-on approach provided complete control over service delivery and allowed the company to develop significant technical expertise in hosting and internet technologies.
As the industry evolved towards cloud and virtualised environments, OrchidServe adapted its infrastructure strategy. Today, the company leverages enterprise-grade data centre and cloud technologies to deliver reliable, scalable and secure hosting solutions. By combining modern hosting platforms with decades of technical experience, OrchidServe continues to provide a comprehensive range of internet services, including website hosting, email hosting, domain name registration and domain management.
OrchidServe has maintained domain reseller relationships and has been involved with domain registration services for more than two decades. The company has also been a member of Nominet, the registry responsible for .uk domain names, reflecting its long-standing commitment to the UK internet industry.
